The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI, President Sangkyu Rhee) held the second session of the "KISDI-Dongseong High School Education Program" on May 14 for students from Dongseong High School, located in Chungbuk Innovation City.

The program is a participatory educational initiative designed to foster problem-solving skills and policy-oriented thinking required in the era of AI and digital transformation. It is being conducted over a total of ten sessions, incorporating special lectures, discussions, and project-based activities.

During the second session, Dr. Lee Min-seok of KISDI delivered a special lecture titled "Understanding Telecommunications Policy."

The lecture provided an accessible overview of the structure and evolution of telecommunications technologies, covering topics ranging from the basic principles behind smartphones and the internet to the generational development of mobile communications from 1G to 6G. It also explained the roles of radio spectrum and base stations, as well as the emergence of satellite internet services.

In addition, the lecture introduced the government's policy role in the telecommunications sector, including the natural monopoly characteristics of the telecommunications industry, universal service schemes, and spectrum management, highlighting the importance of telecommunications policy.

The session provided students with an opportunity to better understand the technological and policy foundations underlying the telecommunications services they use in daily life and to consider future changes in the communications environment, including 6G and satellite internet.

KISDI plans to continue supporting students in broadening their understanding of AI and digital technologies and policies while developing the competencies needed to navigate and contribute to future society.
