On April 11 (Thursday), the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI, President Kim Dae-hui) hosted the 3rd KISDI colloquium of 2019 at the mid-sized conference room on the 2nd floor of KISDI’s main building.

The 3rd colloquium was planned for the purpose of discussing how traditional statistical methodologies could be put to use in the era of Big Data. The colloquium was attended by experts from other public organizations who joined in a very lively exchange of ideas on the subject matter.

Professor Kim Jae-gwang, who gave the presentation, is currently a professor of mathematical sciences at KAIST as well as a professor of statistics at Iowa State University.

Professor Kim pointed out that the wrong conclusions could be drawn by applying a statistical methodology without first considering the bias inherent in Big Data. He then explained how Big Data used in conjunction with survey data could become a new statistical methodology for overcoming such limitations.

In 2019, KISDI will continue to hold such colloquiums to respond to issues preemptively and develop policies for the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
