The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI)
is a government-affiliated institute established in February 1985, with an aim of developing communications environment by building communications infrastructure as well as modernizing the industry in the IT wasteland.
By collecting, surveying, and researching a variety of data and information about IT policy, regulation, and business in and out of Korea, KISDI has made a great contribution to the establishment of national IT policy and, furthermore, the development of national economy.
Today, to meet the needs in the emerging era of broadcasting and telecommunications convergence, KISDI expands to include the broadcasting sector as well as the telecommunications one, placing itself as the world's top think tank for both broadcasting and telecommunications.

The KISDI changed it’s affiliation to the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences(NRCS) under the umbrella of the Office of the Prime Minister, in accordance with the Act No. 5,773 on the Establishment, Operation and Development of Government-Funded Institutions.

Dr. Hyo-Seok Kim was inaugurated as the 5th President.
- Aug. 30, 1997
The official name of the Institute was changed from the IT Development Research Institute to the Korea Information Society Development Institute(KISDI).The revision to the Korea Information Society Development Institute Act(No. 5,407) was proclaimed.The revision of the Enforcement Decree of the Korea Information Society Development Institute Act(Presidential Decree No. 15,472) was proclaimed.

Supplementary organization called the Telecommunications Cooperation Group(in operation until Sept. 1994) was set up.
- Jan. 30, 1988
The Korea Information Society Development Institute(KISDI) was established. Dr. Han-Bin Lee was inaugurated as the 1th Director; and Dr. Se-won Kim was inaugurated as the 1th President.
- Dec. 31, 1987
The Enforcement Decree of the Korea Information Society Development Institute Act(Presidential Decree No. 12,360) was proclaimed.
- Nov. 28, 1987
The Korea Information Society Development Institute Act(No. 3,952) was proclaimed.
- Nov. 20, 1986
The complex was relocated at Shinsa-Dong, Gangnam-Gu, Seoul.
- Feb. 04, 1985
The Institute for Communications Research(ICR) was established.
