Digital Economy & Society Research Division

In an effort to contribute to Korea's social and economic development, the division presents diverse policy measures aimed at advancing ICT-based industries and creating new growth engines. It does so by conducting policy research on changes in the industrial structure along with the evolution of ICT, regulatory reform plans to foster new Internet-based industries, policy measures to nurture venture startups, ICT-based solutions to social issues, and regulatory changes following the advancement of ICT technology.

  Department of Digital Economy Research

  • The Department of Digital Economy Research conducts a variety of studies related to Internet convergence, such as analysis of changes in industrial paradigms according to the evolution of ICT technology, and analysis of policy issues including measures to improve regulations to invigorate new Internet-based industries.
  • The department also researches policies to reinforce ICT competitiveness, a fundamental factor in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
  • This entails activating an ecosystem for ICT venture startups, improving state ICT Research and development (R&D) efficiency, and training human resources.

  Center for AI & Social Policy

  • The Center for AI & Social Policy analyzes the social and cultural impacts of ICT which includes potential risks and opportunities presented to society by the result of new technologies like artificial intelligence and data.
  • Research to develop policies for various social innovations is also being conducted, which would contribute to the realization of a better intelligent information society.
  • The center carries out research on how to improve social acceptance of future technologies and services and method of establishing legal systems and ethical frameworks to protect user rights.
