On December 1 (Thursday), KISDI (President Kwon Ho-yeol) will hold, in an online format, the ‘2023 South Korea Future Forecast Conference’ in order to discuss the topic of ‘A National Future Strategy as Revealed by Data’. The event will be broadcast live.

This forecast conference will be hosted by the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences (NRC). Top experts from the research institute affiliated with the NRC and various external organizations will be invited to contribute their views of the current situation faced by South Korea and explore - using actual data - the best short- and long-term national strategies for the future.

The conference, consisting of five parts in total, will open with a keynote speech by Chairperson Jeong Hae-gu of the NRC, followed by a congratulatory speech by Secretary-General Lee Kwang-jae of the National Assembly, and a welcoming address by President Kwon Ho-yeol of KISDI, concluding Part 1 of the event. Part 2 is scheduled to be a special session on digital platform government, Part 3 will deal with the research output produced by the NRC's research institute, and Part 4 will be dedicated to future issues and outlooks. Finally, the conference will wrap up in Part 5 with a final debate by experts invited from various fields.

In his keynote speech scheduled for Part 1, CEO Jacques Attali of Attali & Amp will give a talk on the topic of ‘Future Prospects in the Post-Covid-19 Era’, followed by KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung, who will give a welcoming address titled ‘Future Strategy for South Korea in the Age of Technopolitics’.

CEO Jacques Attali will offer his analysis of pressing global issues such as climate change, education, food supply, public health, and diplomacy, and provide his recommendations for the future of South Korea. President Lee Kwang-hyung will talk about what kind of future strategy South Korea will need to adopt in the age of technopolitics.

In the special session of Part 2, the invited experts will give lectures on the subject of 'Digital Platform Government', one of the main items on the government's agenda. They will discuss governmental efforts to set up digital platform government and ways in which public and private enterprises could create new values together.

In the Part 3 session on the research achievements of the NRC's research institute, KISDI, the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs and the Korea Transport Institute will share the results of their joint study on the development of a future forecasting model that utilizes the NRC Data Information System.

In the Part 4 session on future issues and outlooks, the experts will begin by presenting their outlooks on the pending issues of today, starting with their predictions about the global economy in 2023, before moving on to topics like defense, digital cooperation, climate, digital talents, and the need to promote the adoption of data platforms, and then explaining how the country should respond to these issues.

At the final wrap-up debate session, the experts will explore, through the lens of a comprehensive reexamination of the aforementioned issues, the future strategy options that South Korea will need to implement in order to go move one step closer to a better future.

Chairperson Jeong Hae-gu of the NRC emphasized: "Future outlooks must be based on real data as much as possible and derived through scientific methods so as to ensure that they do not become arbitrary in nature. At a transitional time of massive and rapid changes, we at the NRC aim to provide as much support as possible in preparing measures for effectively dealing with the complex problems that we will encounter both domestically and internationally."

Meanwhile, President Kwon declared: "This conference offers a precious opportunity for the experts from South Korea and abroad to examine the current situation in our country and to predict the future based on real data. With these predictions, we will be able to discuss what kinds of strategies will be needed to create a better future.”

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 South Korea Future Forecast Conference will be broadcast live online via the official website of the conference and the YouTube channels of KISDI and NRC. In addition, the presentation materials for this year’s conference as well as those for past years will be available for downloading from the official website of the conference (http://www.futureforecast.net/main.php).
