On December 1 (Thursday, 2 PM), KISDI, together with the Korea Communications Commission, held the 4th International Conference on Ethics of the Intelligent Information Society (ICEI) on the theme of ‘AI, Culture, and Society’. Leading domestic and international experts engaged in online and offline discussions of the potential social and cultural impacts of AI technology as it becomes ever more ubiquitous.

The first ICEI was held in 2019 to discuss newly emerging issues relating to user protection as the adoption of AI technologies became increasingly widespread, making it necessary to build a policy consensus among governments in the international community. This year's conference is the fourth time it was held since 2019.

The conference consisted of three sessions in total. In the first session, Professor Jeremy Bailenson and Professor Jeff Hancock (both from Stanford University) jointly gave the keynote speech, which was titled ‘Reflections on the AI Universe’.

In the second session, Professor Virginia Dignum of Sweden’s Umea University gave a presentation titled ‘Responsible Artificial Intelligence: from Principles to Practice’; Professor Michael Beurskens of Germany’s University of Passau gave a presentation titled ‘Tool, Pirate or Creator? – Copyright in AI-Created Works’; and CEO Choi Hyung-wook (Future Designers) delivered a presentation titled ‘The Metaverse Tomorrow: What the evolution of computing platforms and connectivity could bring’.

In the third and final session, the presenters, together with domestic experts and representatives from consumer groups, participated in a wrap-up discussion held in the format of a video conference.
