■ Invitation
As the President of Korea Information Society Development
Institute (KISDI), I am delighted to invite you to the 11th KISDI
International Conference, “ Governing the Regulatory Reforms and Privatization
of the Telecommunications Industry.”
KISDI, a leading think-tank in telecommunication policy, sees that
the convergence and the rapid changes in the telecommunications
sector make established institutions and instruments no longer effective.
The need for reforms in the existing telecommunication laws and
regulations has become urgent. Above all, regulators have to ensure
the revolution in technology to benefit all people. Yet, the challenges
are many and myriad.
“Governing the Regulatory Reforms and Privatization of the Telecommunications
Industry” is one of the many attempts for KISDI to discuss globally
applicable principles. KISDI invites distinguished speakers and
discussant from Australia, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and
the United States to share the experiences of developed countries
and to provide a model of successful policy concerning liberalization,
privatization, and deregulation.
Scheduled in session I is the deregulation experience of Australia
and the US, focusing on the network strategy and the role of policy
in the information age. In session II, by analyzing British Telecom,
French Telecom, and Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corporation
(NTT), we will formulate measures to maximize the benefit of Korea
Telecom through privatization.
We sincerely hope that this conference will provide a valuable
opportunity for all the participants to share their experiences
and ideas.
